I met Kim at an unexpected place and time. It was just past midnight on the eve of my 27th birthday and I was out with friends at a bar in Santa Monica. I probably would not have even attempted to talk to her if I hadn’t had the birthday boost of confidence, but luckily I did. It was a brief first encounter, but we left enough of an impression on each other to plan a date a few days later. We had an amazing first date and, well, I guess the rest is history. Kim was different from most of my previous girlfriends. Instead of being fiery and fierce, she had a more calm and cooling energy. She was into yoga, meditation, and healthy aspects of living. I was ready to try new things and my relationship with Kim sparked a key transition in my life when I chose to explore my spirituality, consciousness, nature, and wellbeing in a variety of activities.
In the spirit of trying new things, I chose to write Kim a poem for her birthday in 2005. She loved it! Then the following year, I developed it into a song. “My Darling Girl” represents my best attempt at merging a pop/rock songwriting style with my classical roots.
lyrics
My Darling Girl, Not looking for, But there you were, right at my door.
Those glowing eyes, and precious smile, Oh, how I’ve come to like your style.
Your wild and subtle personality, Makes me want you, so close to me.
Where we were going, we did not know, But sure enough, we found our flow.
(pre-chorus)
Although this love did not intend, You have become, my lover and friend.
(chorus)
I CONFESS MY HEART TO THE WORLD, I DO LOVE YOU MY DARLING GIRL
The way your kiss responds to me, Can turn me on, uncontrollably
Our energy, sent to the world, Makes people say, “Who’s got that girl?”
(pre-chorus)
(chorus)
The way you love me, so unconditionally, Reaching highs with you, it’s our chemistry.
How far we go, may one day see, One hundred and one, possibilities! (solo)
My Darling Girl, Not looking for, But there you were, right at my door.
Those glowing eyes, and precious smile, Oh, how I’ve come to love your style.
